Virgin Australia is in a bit of heat thanks to a decision to recognise and honour Australian war veterans on their flights.
According to an NT News report, veterans of the Australian military who are travelling with Virgin will be recognised in a number of ways. They will be allowed to board before other passengers, and during the in-flight announcements, Virgin will acknowledge the contribution those veterans have made.
Veterans who have and present their cards and lapel pins will be recognised. The decision has been met with criticism from other airlines and some veterans have labelled it “embarrassing”.
The news follows an announcement from the federal government that provides a discount card for returned servicemen and women, as well as a jobs program to help returned veterans find work.
