Half of the Christmas celebration is getting out and enjoying the gorgeous light displays put up on shop fronts and town centres – but also the displays put up by ourselves and other locals!
If you’ve lived in one place for a long time, then no doubt you’ll know where to witness the best displays in the lead up to Christmas. But if you’re visiting somewhere away from home – and you’re not near a capital city, either – well, we’ve found two websites to help you find the best light displays this December.
To search by postcode, you could visit Christmas Light Search, which gives users the opportunity to locate specific addresses by map. The website’s users can vote for the best home light displays, which show up on the site’s homepage.
Christmas Light Search also lists Christmas events in the area, like the Hunter Valley Christmas Light Spectacular, which runs every evening until January 26. If catching Santa in the right place at the right time for a photo is important to your family, the site has that covered too. It’s pretty comprehensive.
Alternatively, there’s Oz Christmas Lights, but the site isn’t quite as informative and many of the homes listed are actually out of date.
For more location-specific light displays, it’s always worth picking up a copy of the local paper, or subscribing to that paper online.
Similarly, if you think you’ve got a pretty spectacular display happening out the front of yours, you can make it worthwhile and register your place so others can appreciate your efforts (and your power bill!) on many of the websites listed.
For something a little more unusual in the South East Queensland area, check out the Christmas Light Boat Parade , which is now in its fifth year.
